1. Introduction

Recently, Taiwan and China have more chance to have access with each other. Meanwhile, the mass media is the important part of daily life no matter where you live in even Taiwan or China, it will affect your through the mass media.
In Taiwan, the mass media such as news on TV, magazines and radios can accrue the certain point of view on the issue. Therefore, there are about ten to twenty questions on the survey; each question is about what media you choose from, how the media works upon you and why you prefer accepting the information which the media reports. After collecting the data and the result, we could comprehend what Taiwanese and Chinese think about on the same subject of debate. Rather than receiving the knowledge which was selected by one institute or the powerful authority.
On the other hand, we are also curious of how Taiwan’s students’ impression of China. So that we design the survey in order to understand what media they choose from and how the media affects them and so on.

2. Methods

The target audience of the survey includes ten Taiwan students in NCU and ten China exchange students in NCU. Through each side, we could understand how mass media affect cross-strait people. Even though we are all Chinese we still have entirely different thinking ways. It is probably the influence of education or the division of the geography. Taiwan and China have diverse view points on the same issue.
Therefore, we set out ten questions to realize how mass media affect them. At first, we want to know their background, therefore, the first question is divided into three questions, and each one of them is “What province of Mainland China do you come from?” “What university in Mainland China do you study in?” and “What is your major?” Different regions and majors will also have influence on one’s though. These questions will help us to analyze how the background is bond to the way of choosing mass media. And the second question is “What local TV channel do you mostly watch?” Because in Taiwan, each channel take different view points to report the same news, even though there is no freedom of information in China, we presume local channels and central channels could report with different point of views.
The following questions are about what is the most interested in Taiwan’s programs, channels, etc., or how the press of China forms your impression of Taiwan. As a result of, our theme of research is “How mass media manipulate the impression of Taiwan?” It is one of our concerns which how TV channels of China describe the issue of Taiwan. If the mass media of China gives them a stereotype of Taiwan, after they come to Taiwan, experiencing the Taiwan, and also watching the Taiwan news or the program of Taiwan. Do they change the impression of Taiwan? Or it could be worse after you come to Taiwan. At the same time, we want to understand how you feel about the mass media in Taiwan and the description of China.
, After collecting the questionnaire, we will select some interesting questionnaires to interview with them, in order to realize what the purpose of answering the answer, helping us to analyze in depth.

3. Result/Finding

Most of students are from South East University, Chong Qing University and Nanking University due to cooperation of policy, their majors are all belonging to college of science or engineering. They mostly come from Zhe Jian, Jian Su such as province which located along the coat. The background of them has influence on their ways of thinking. However, the theme of the survey is “How mass media for the exchange student of China form their impression of Taiwan?” The following questions are the main part of the entire survey.
“What local TV channel do you mostly watch?” CCTV takes the big part of the answer of the question, in China; CCTV is the greatest official cooperation. CCTV is divided into eighteen channels. Each one of them has different subject of programs being radiated. CCTV1 and CCTV4 are channels which the interviewees watch mostly. CCTV1 is the mixture channel; it is not only the news but also the variety shows, etc. it is like the TTV and CTV in Taiwan. CCTV4 is about the international including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. It is the common way to access to Taiwan.
As for the students in Taiwan, they prefer watching the TV channels such like CTITV and HBO. The function of TV channels is focus on amusement. It is really hard for them to see the news of China.
The most interest part of channels of Taiwan for the student in China is the politic and culture. They also can watch the variety shows and idol dramas in the channel of Channel. And the student in Taiwan, they have interest in culture of China. The student of Taiwan can watch the soap operas of China like Da Jia Men.
The stereotype of Taiwan for the student of China is “the people in Taiwan is friendly and the scenery is also beautiful.” But for the student in Taiwan, they thought the poverty gap in China is huge, and the quality of people is undeveloped. After going to the cross-strait, the student of Taiwan still have the impression of China is stubborn, not having the big change. In the case of the students of China, there is a big change for them; Taiwan is messing about the mass media. The minor thing takes the TV stations much time to report, it is really let them feel curious.

4. Discussion

Most the questionnaire of China, we find out that background is not the important reason even though they come from different provinces. The TV station which they watched often is CCTV1 and CCTV4. However, China is a communism country, the news or the programs should be managed by the government. These TV channels are more rigid, the programs and the way of reporting are not as “vivid” as Taiwan, but it also provides the viewer for judging the issue by themselves. The students in Taiwan have more chance to choose from because of the freedom of speech. The background is still not the important affection of their point of view when answering the questionnaire. Meanwhile, they prefer choosing such TV channels like CTITV(中天娛樂台), HBO, CTV, etc which have the function of amusement, not having the channel which focus on the news (i.e.TVBS, SET) It also reveals the student of Taiwan prefer some humorous issues rather than solemn issues. As result of the type of choosing TV channels, the students of Taiwan do not have more chance to watch the news about police or economy. So they have most interest in culture, for example, the scenery of geography and the new discovery in China.
The variety shows of Taiwan and idol dramas are also popular in China, instead of news; these programs also help them to understand Taiwan. It also gives them the expectation that what Taiwan should be. On the other hand, in the textbook of geography, it also said that Taiwan is a prosperous island and developed highly. However, after they came to Taiwan, they discover Taiwan is not as good as they know in China. The mass media of Taiwan is really chaotic, even the minor thing could be reported for a long time, let them feel curious and bored. For the student of Taiwan, they though the drama or the series in China are more magnificent than the Taiwan’s and the news of China will be reported in depth. The difference may because of the freedom of speech. In China, every programs and news should modify by government. Though in Taiwan, we could report liberally without any prohibition.
Namely, the theme “how mass media form the impression of Taiwan (China),” how could affect the forming of impression, above all, we could conclude “the speech of freedom” is the core reason of the project.

In the second procedure of the discussion, we set out ten questions to realize how mass media affect them. Deleting and revising our original question survey, we take what teacher said in class. The good survey does not exist yes-no question, if the interviewee answers no, we could continue to next step. Therefore, we revise some yes-no questions of our questions so as to make the questionnaire easy to answer.

Individual project of First progress

In the first procedure of the discussion, we narrow down out theme of the survey. “How Mass Media Manipulate the impression of Taiwan of the Exchange Students of Chong Qing University in NCU?” Meanwhile, we are also curious of how Taiwan’s students’ impression of China. So that we design the survey in order to understand what media they choose from and how the media affects them and so on.

Take the identity of the country for example; most of Taiwanese have the opinion that Taiwan is an independent country. On Contrary, most of the cross-strait inhabitants think Taiwan is the province which it can not be divided. We presume the hypothesis that the different definition of the identity because of the mass media.

In Taiwan, the mass media such as news on TV, magazines and radios can accrue the certain point of view on the issue. Therefore, there are about ten to twenty questions on the survey; each question is about what media you choose from, how the media works upon you and why you prefer accepting the information which the media reports. After collecting the data and the result, we could comprehend what Taiwanese and Chinese think about on the same subject of debate. In conclusion, we can analyze the technique which the mass media to operate the facts resulted in the impression which they convey.

As soon as you get to “Kyotobashi”, you will see many sets of kimono at the first sight. We all understand kimono is Japanese traditional costume. In Kyotobashi, you can see many colorful kimonos; meanwhile you can buy kimono or even get a free one. Here it provides the fitting room for women as well. You can change the kimono immediately once get a new one. Wearing a kimono is a dream of women in some countries. However, you may not only fulfill your dream but also earn money by dancing like the geisha.

Besides, the scenery is also full of Japanese characteristics. The houses are all Tatami houses, and there are some artificial scenes as well. You will experience a feeling totally different from places where you idle in SL. Also, the music let me feel the atmosphere of Kyoto. If you get here, there would be no need to travel abroad, and then you could undergo the exotic culture.

Here, you can make your kimono dream come true, by dancing like a geisha to earn money. In conclusion, Kyotobashi not only help you earn more money but also help you experience the beauty of classical city Kyoto.

Alan’s news reports the “Subway, 161 Street Station, Yankee Stadium” however, you might think it as the subway station. It did not relate to the subway station actually. The entrance leads us down into no station but the dungeon. The dungeon has the connotation of darkness and undesirable. But everyone here want to be trapped because of 0$L. There are so many boards hanging on the wall and boxes stacked under.

Here declared the free item gratis and it is also the most appealing feature. Anything you could think would get here, even more some special gadgets. More importantly, most of them are free. You could just choose the best looks on you.

After you dress the selected kimono, you must want to know how it looks. Therefore, you could dance for a certain time in order to earn Lindens. Under the circumstance, it seems that you are the geisha in SL.

The scenery is also full of Japanese characteristics. The house is all Tatami houses, and there are some manufactured scenes as well. You will experience a whole different feeling from the places where you idle in SL. Besides, the music let me feel the atmosphere of Kyoto. If you got here, there would be no need to travel abroad, and then you could undergo the exotic culture.

Kyotobashi really provides the good chance to earn Lindens; moreover, it is equipped with the different culture where you live now.
